Are You A Fan of Yellow Dubmarine? [Music]

A friend of mine brought this band to my attention and as a late blooming Beatles fan, I appreciated what Yellow Dubmarine is doing.  Sadly, they are sticking to areas around my home town for their performances but, lets get the word out so that they can make it to say ... Memphis, TN?!?!  Apparently, the group is forged out of the still standing band called Woo who currently have an album out call New Found Dub.  Do I recommend purchasing? Always.

As the name suggests, Yellow Dubmarine blends two distinct sounds that have influenced pop and rock and roll music from the early 1970’s and onward. Practically inescapable in much of today’s music are the rhythms and characteristic “skank” of reggae, which, along with its precursor rocksteady, has influenced everyone from Eric Clapton to Willie Nelson. But Yellow Dubmarine applies this aesthetic to the songs of the Beatles, a band whose sound has essentially created a sub-genre within the broader context of rock and pop music. This sub-genre is characterized by bands who view the Beatles’ music as a framework for their own; this moves beyond influence, and is, in fact, recognition of the Beatles impact— imitation as the greatest form of flattery.

What is ingenious about Yellow Dubmarine’s interpretation of the Beatles’ song book is that the era of Beatles’ music performed has correlated to a distinct era in the development of Jamaica’s treasured music. This has happened perhaps unintentionally, but has happened none the less. Often the earlier Beatles songs evoke an earlier form of reggae, sounding more like ska or rocksteady than dub; while later songs have seemed to require the more developed and sonically rich nuances of both roots reggae and later dub styles. In this sense, Yellow Dubmarine has taken a novel concept and proceeded with extreme reverence for both the Beatles’ music and the reggae artists they have been influenced by. Their music is the more humble and clever for it.

New Cam'ron feat. Snoop and Red - Yo Momma on Ya [Music]

 

Cam'ron has a new song out featuring Snoop and a homeless California man named, Red.  Direct from Ms. Info, here's the explanation:

But the backstory for “Yo Momma on Ya” is even crazier….the hook and the flow is originally created by a well-known homeless guy named Red, who was first recorded by the folks at the HVW8 Art Gallery in Los Angeles. Red was living in the alley behind their gallery. His performance became a youtube favorite, and Cam actually paid for the rights to the song. But then Red disappeared! So now…Cam and Snoop are hoping that by putting out the song, someone will track down Red, so they can make sure he’s getting his money and can get in the video.

Apparently, Red has several versions of his song on YouTube but, if you ask me nothing is like the original.  The song is dope and the cause is dope.  Hear the song below and Red's original version beneath that.  Beside where is Red, I want to know...

Are You A Fan of The Walking Dead? [TV]

Are you sad that True Blood is about to complete season 3?  Don't think The Gates or Vampire Diaries will hold you over until 2011?  Well AMC is here to bring you some new sh*t!  Enter zombies!  The Walking Dead is a show developed by AMC from the critically acclaimed graphic novel by the same name.

The show doesn't look any different than what we've seen from movies like Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, Night of the Living Dead, etc.  I think the main difference is going to be the main character.  I believe in AMC's power to be the poor man's HBO with characters that will make something like the walking dead very intriguing.  I appreciate fact that its going to be a 90 minute premier and 6 episodes after.  Who knows what will happen after the first season, but, the people behind the scenes working on this project has me interested.  I'll watch.

Are You A Fan Of F**k You by Cee-Lo Green? [Music]

 

Anyone who underestimates Cee-Lo Green's songwriting skills need to go back to an album called Soul Food by Goodie Mob.  Although all of the members do shine on their own Cee-Lo clearly stood out adding another dimension of entertainment on this and every album since.  He's had several solo releases since leaving the Goodie Mob including, Cee-Lo Green And His Perfect Imperfections, Cee-Lo Green Is the Soul Machine and his Gnarls Barkley collaborations with Danger Mouse, St. Elsewhere, The Odd Couple.  I highly recommend them all.

I came across this clip on graenewyork.blogspot.com.  For all my people that are living L.U.I. (Life Under the Influence) please watch this clip.  Especially if you loved Inception you have to check this out.  I think it should be a new rule to just keep spoofs limited to trailers because this is perfect and isn't over doing it like all of the spoof movies after Scary Movie 1 & 2.

Are You A Fan of Black Swan? [Movies]

Okay, do not sleep on this movie.  This looks like it has all the right elements to make a classic film!  I repeat DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS MOVIE!  Natalie Portman is an AMAZING actress (don't believe, watch Closer) and she is looking yin & yang-ish in this movie, Mila Kunis seems to be exploring break out role territory with this one and Vincent Cassel looks like he fits in between them like a glove. I repeat do not sleep on this movie!  Once again.  Watch the trailer... Let us know...

Meet the Parents: Little Fockers TRAILER [Movies]

This is a franchise that I enjoy thoroughly.  There's just something about Robert DeNiro's intimidating presence around Ben Stiller that make the character dynamic of Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers hilarious.  I remember seeing the first one and thought to myself, "If this was supposed to be my son in law, he would have to go."  Now after a sequel we get to meet his children and this trailer shows that they are a handful.  What do you think about the trailer for Little Fockers?
